in honor of nile roger’s collaboration with daft punk, my one o’clock album is chic’s first disc.
first of all, tony thompson, bernie edwards & nile rogers are probably the most talented trio in the mid to late 70’s disco era. they were amazing musicians in their own right, and unfortunately they seem to get buried in the disco dustbin, which is unfair. the tight & crisp playing is really unbeatable in an era that became a producer’s medium.
secondly, the self titled debut has probably one of my favorite songs of the era, ‘everybody dance’. this also happens to be ?uestlove’s favorite disco songs, too. justifiably, i feel like i’m in good company with the human drum machine.
it’s defintiely of its’ time, but an album of great rhythmic possibilities & variations nonetheless. it’s soulful. musical & funky, at a time when there was a lot of corny shit around.
anyway, back to work…
